The Points Guy on Credit Card Travel Insurance

The Points Guy has an interesting article on EClaimsLine, the third party travel insurance provider used by many credit card issuers offering travel insurance and/or car rental insurance. Just something to consider before you rely on your credit card to provide insurance. https://thepointsguy.com/guide/eclaimsline-insurance-issues/

Noting that Eclaimsline is a part of Allianz, the big German insurance company. Reading the reviews I am surprised how many file claims for delayed baggage. How would you prove your bag was delayed, and why not just file a claim with the airline? Also the number of people who prepay a rental car-- I would never do that, whatever the savings in prepaying would be lost to the insurance premium.

Lots of people buy Allianz insurance and rave about it, so missing the disconnect with this subsidiary.

Good information, especially since I'm currently evaluating my insurance options for this year's trips.

I think the maxim, "you get what you pay for" applies in many cases.

Couple that with a variety of rules and requirements that people rarely look into, until after they have a problem, and often once they no longer can get the documentation.

If you really want to use credit card insurance for a car rental or travel insurance, then call the administrator of the plan (not customer service of the credit card) and ask them what is covered and what is needed for a claim, before you use it.

Many of the issues in the article probably would have been avoided if they had.

However, if you really have a concern and want assurance, pay for your own plan.

I've "used" credit car insurance at least 25 times (without a claim) for a rental car so I have no regrets. How can saving $4000 give any regrets?

When this topic appears periodically there are always people who chime in and say they have had real world use of it and it worked out fine.

The only time we had to make a claim on the credit card was on a rental car .... they were great!!!
