The I AMsterdam Card

If you are going to be visiting most all of the main museums and using trams extensively it IS worth it. Don't purchase it online; since they don't mail the cards out you will have to wait in line for 30 minutes to pick up your card; so there is no advantage. Instead look for the official street sellers roaming around outside Centraal Station and Dam Square. They are easy to spot with very recognizable uniforms with the card's logo on it. The only trouble I ran into was at the Stedelijk Museum, they currently have a major Andy Warhol exhibit, and had signs up telling card holders that there would be a 3.50 surcharge because of the exhibit. There were some heated arguments from people ahead of me in line since the card is supposed to cover exhibitions as well. I decided to just pay and be done with it but when the clerk gave me my receipt it said amount paid 0.00! When I asked why it didn't say 3.50 she said the 3.50 was really a donation.......

......that when I lost my cool, and I told the clerk I felt they just "hustled" me. I have already written a letter of complaint to the museum and the Dutch Ministry of Tourism. But I had no problem at any other attraction; everyone else was more than happy to take it.
