The Dolomites, late April

Hello there I booked a trip for two weeks from Rome to Geneva(by rented car) from the 20th of April to the 4th of May. I wish to hike for a few days at the Dolomite's, or even a few day hikes, do you reckon its possible even though most of the lifts are shut down? or should i just avoid the north east and drive to northern west of Italy instead, maybe even to Monaco.. I really wish i could hike the Dolomite's so if you know of any hike(even if its a bit snowy and even if i cant use the lifts and i can walk up on foot) that is worth the drive ill do it.. Best regards
Erez

The hiking season doesn't begin in the Alps until late May, at a minimum, and in some areas, not until July. April is usually too soggy, as the snow is too wet to ski, but the trails are still covered in it.

I love the Dolomites ( we are there right now) but would never go in late April. Not only will the lifts not be running, most hotels and restaurants will be closed. We visited Lago di Garda in mid-April few years ago and stayed in Malcescine. The lift up Monte Baldo was running and we had a very nice hike there. It was muddy and a bit snowy at the top, but lower down was very nice. We hiked up to the mid- station and rode the cable car from there to the top. Malcescine was very pleasant and not at all crowded as the season had not yet started.
