I would hasten to point out that Frank, in picking on Bruce just a tad (I know Bruce can take it ;-) ) also said...I would rather be in Rome at a 100 than Whitefish at 70 degrees.

Are you taking extra vitamins or something, Frank?

I put on m big boy pants this morn and enjoyed a lovely hike with wild roses, Indian paintbrush and beargrass blooming everywhere. It's now 85F in the direct sun. I'd wilt in Rome at 100F and they don't make enough drinkable beer there to revive me. I'll try harder for a quote of the week. 1st prize?

I don't know Bruce, there is good beer in Italy. A couple of years ago after a long and very hot day in Rome, we were needing some serious hydration. We were walking in a back alley off a side street when we saw a tiny bar with a well known German sign in the window and a vacant table in front. This will do. Chatted with the waiter for minute to determine that they did indeed have the German beer as advertised, that it was on draft and not bottle or canned so ordered two "big" beers. Never thought to question just how big, "big" might be - expecting maybe a 16 or 20 oz glass. To our surprise he showed up with two, very frosty, glass, liter size mugs typical of the mugs you get at a German beer garden. We drank it all. Then we fired up the "Nearest WC" app and headed back to the hotel. A very good day.

I get a little unnerved when I see Bruce's posts because my late ex-brother-in-law was named Bruce and lived outside of Whitefish

OK, so if there is a supply of German beer, in draft form, I can return to Rome. Oddly, was actually testing airfares there just today). 1L size is just right, rather than .3/.5L (baby beers).

Fact check: am unrelated to Debbie, now or in the past. :)

Was just thinking, Bruce. The sad part is that I don't think we could ever find that bar again. I did take a picture. It was a great little bar, later they served some very tasty snacks that were free. Just a great little place to end the day with a big beer. Over the years we have been in Rome maybe for three if not four weeks total and still spend most of our time slightly to totally lost. We tend to keep walking till something looks familiar and then for a few minutes we know where we are till we are lost again. But in the process we have found some great little place that we will never find again.

I will take a nice day in the mountains---any mountains-- over a hot day in Rome any day, no matter how much beer is offered! ( we actually prefer wine anyway, or maybe gelato on a hot day). That is why we tend to visit Europe in May ( too early for hiking in the mountains here) or October ( too late, although sometimes we get lucky and have a nice day with golden larches as a bonus).

No idea on quote of the week. We have been traveling in and back from the UK this week so have not been paying attention all that much.

Frank - at least these days you can tag your photos with long/lat - plug those into google and find that great little place.

Nomination for this week -

Lee

What about WD40? "There are two kinds of problems in the world. Those
that can be solved with duct tape and those that can be solved with
WD40."

Lee's quote gets my vote. See also frequent quote, “You only need two things in life: Duct Tape and WD-40. If it moves and shouldn’t, use Duct Tape, if it doesn’t move and should, use WD-40.” Oh, for all your shoppers, scored a three-pack of WD40 at Costco recently. Used to buy it by the gallon (3.7854L).
