The Berner Oberland. Where can I find something similar experience inside or outside of Switzerland?

I just love the Berner Oberland. Where can I find similar inside or outside of Switzerland?

Thanks

No two places are equal; this being said, the Alps have many narrow valleys with mountain top access through cable cars, gondolas, trails, waterfalls etc. The infrastructure in Switzerland is significantly better than in other countries, however.

A friend of mine is currently doing an interior trip of Alaska and a lot of her pictures are reminding me of Switzerland, esp. Denali. Not so much the gondolas and whatnot but the way the landscape looks, the marmots, the wide open nature/fresh air factor, etc.

Denali, this is a good start. I will put that down . That is a 6 hour flight from Chicago.

I enjoyed the Dolomites as much as the Berner Oberland. We stayed in Ortisei.

Hello, of course nothing will be totally equatable, but consider:

Patagonia in Argentina/Chile - especially Torres del Paine National Park
Norway's fjord country - Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord
Picos de Europa, Spain - Sotres and Fuente Dé both make good bases for hiking

Yes I have been considering this destination over my annual Xmas/New Years trip break to include a trip to iguazu falls. The problem has been the airfare from Chicago down there has been cost prohibitive.

I will do some research on these. Will I see snow up there in August?

Hi Jazz, I would also heartily recommend the Iguazu Falls, I was there back in 2014, and for me it was one of the top 3 most impressive things I have ever seen.

August should be the perfect time weather wise for Norway's Fjords and the Picos de Europa, no snow except for the tallest peaks. I just had a light jacket on when I was in Norway and Fuente Dé in August.

Also the Cerdanya Valley and the Aran Valley in the Catalan Pyrenees may be a good options too :)

Zermatt, Switzerland.

There are a number of gorgeous valleys just south of Innsbruck with bus/local train connections to the gondolas at the valley heads up onto the local glaciers,,,,

Going west of Innsbruck on the way towards Switzerland the village of St Anton von Arlberg is glorious, again with gondolas/chairlifts that operate in the summer.

And the Dolomites in the SouthTirol of Italy.

Grand Tetons, Wyoming - very busy, but there is reason for that
Wallowa Mountains- NE Oregon, not very busy because they are a well kept secret and off the beaten path.
Olympic Mountains- Washington State (I look at them every day from my window)

I'm going to suggest the Maroon Bells area near Aspen Colorado for beauty, but it doesn't have the villages and people of the BO.

As others have mentioned chamonix is wonderful and u +an hike or gondola to Italy.
But frankly the BO is unique and unmatch3d imo.

Lots of great ideas above!

We enjoyed Pontresina in Graubünden almost as much as we like the Val Gardena and Berner Oberland. They speak Italian there, too, an advantage for me. Spent a week there in fall 2018 and we are discussing a return.
