Thank you all, we arrived safely in Abingdon!!

We got in on time and had decided to check our luggage which thankfully arrived with us, no problems. Our heaviest bag was 24lbs (7 of those were related to wheels I'm sure), and most were under 20 lbs.

It's COLD, damp and drizzling. We're bone weary and turning in early. Had a lovely meal at the Broad Face here in Abingdon. This was our second time to eat there (back in May) and everything was perfect. All decorated for Christmas, and they were getting the tables ready for an office party.

Hoping to go into London tomorrow. BTW, Continental did an excellent job with my GF meal. I was really surprised because I took extra things to eat just in case and didn't have to use them.

Will try to answer any questions you might have about London/Oxford as we move around this week.

Thanks again for all the help as I prepared for my unexpected trip.

Hope you have a wonderful vacation and that whatever coat you picked out, keeps you as snuggly and warm as you wanted to be.

Thank you Jo. My coat is working out just fine. I worried too much, but then again, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Yesterday we spent the day in London. It was not unbearably during the day, but the stores (whoever warned me about this was dead on) are OVER HEATED, so watch out for the layers you wear. My goodness, I was looking forward to going into the cold off and on just to revive myself. I thought I'd pass out in Harrods.

In the night we went to Hyde Park and that is where I was glad to have worn the many layers, scarf, hat and gloves. It was quite chilly.

For anyone wondering what to wear to London in winter, I have to say that I've seen jeans on all ages (from light to dark/black jeans), Northface Jackets, Patagonia, and other brands that I don't remember now, but they were not worn on Americans!! Very confusing because we would assume the wearers are from the States and it turns out to be Brits or Europeans. We've also seen lots of hoodies. Good thing I didn't talk the kids out of bringing theirs, and on older men too (think 60+)! I keep muttering to the kids, "so many folks on RS site worry about clothing, and so many warn that one should not wear this or that, yet here we see everything." Oh, the backpacks. Didn't some people say that messenger bags were more Euro looking? Please. You see lots of backpacks, and carried by males/females of all ages. Shirts, jackets, backpacks with logos everywhere. Winter coats are mainly black/charcoal/greys, but colours are to be found (green, red, sky blue, turquoise, burgundy, navy, stripes, checks, white, cream) etc.

That's about all I can think of in the clothing observation department. For museums and shops I'd wear a thicker coat (someone had mentioned this) because it's easier to peel off than layers, but I did manage to almost strip down to the lightest layer, LOL

Any questions, ask here or send me a PM.
