"Whatsapp" was suggested to me as a great texting, pix and video application for my IPhone, while traveling in Europe. Since all parties need the app, will we all need to be inside wifi? Has anyone tried this app? I have a friend that talks with a family member in Africa daily and thinks it is wonderful.
Any thoughts appreciated.
I haven't used that app specifically, but I did use one called HeyWire. It might have some advantages over Whatsapp if it is available for iPhones (I have a Droid). The other party DOES NOT have to have the same app, for one thing. I used it on wifi (non GSM phone) to text my family while I was in Spain. It's also free.
I use whatsapp to keep in text contact with some friends in Europe. It's a free app, which is nice. You and whoever you want to text do have to have the app. You do have to have a wifi connection, or your regular data service for it to work, so it is not great for staying in communication while out walking around in Europe. It is good for just keeping in contact if the contact doesn't have to be instant. If you send a text message to someone, they will get the text once they have an internet connection. I haven't used it for anything other than texting and sending text photos.
Judy, I'm not familiar with "WhatsApp", but my normal practice is to just use texting from the phone as I do at home. It's easy and simple, and the cost is not really a problem. Cheers!
Thanks so much for the reply on what's app.
I use whatsapp to talk with friends in Mexico all the time. What was said before is correct. You do need Internet connection, so to watch $ need to use wifi connect. Also other party needs to have whatsapp. I plan to send pics from my upcoming trip to Europe to my Mexico friends! I have been getting Mexico City vacation pics from them all week!
