Tegelberg paragliding

I am interested in paragliding from Tegelberg. I have looked into the professional companies and the cost is approx. $175. Due to uncertainty in my schedule I can't plan/confirm/book a time. As such I was going to hope to hitch a ride with a paraglider from the tegelberg base if and when it fits my schedule. Also, it would be great to save the money.

In the Rick Steve's book he writes "Thrill-Seekers with exceptional social skills may talk themselves into a tandem ride with a paraglider"

Has anyone actually done this? Any advice or experience to share?

Is there a club of enthusiast that I could try to contact to set something like this up?

What else do you have planned on your trip? You find paragluiding all over the Alps, so if you have more time somewhere else, don't think that you need to zero in on Tegelberg.

The three places where I've seen the most paragluiding are Oberstdorf in Bavaria, Obertauern in Salzburgerland and the Berner Oberland.

We go to Munich, Salzberg, tegelberg, prauge, berlin, Paris, and end in Nice

So, that really is the time/spot we have.

If you have more than a day in Salzburg, that could be another opportunity. Obertauern, which I mentioned, is about 30 minutes to the south. There's probably other places you can paraglide closer, as Salzburg is right in the shadow of the Alps.

I have taken the Mike's Bikes Day Trip to Neuschwanstein twice and both times there were multiple paragliders offering to take people up for a price. I had my 11 year old sons with me on each occasion and the with my youngest son, I was caught at a weak moment and let him go up, without me, with one of the guys. His girlfriend drove us into an ATM in the nearest town to get cash, but I don't remember the exact price now (it was 6 years ago, so probably irrelevant anyway, but it was expensive enough that he was the only person who went.) Off they went on the Gondola while I waited for him at the bottom. All went well and he has great pics and memories. As for getting free ride with great social skills, these trips were full of college students who seemed to have great social skills and I don't think anyone there had any chance of hitching a free ride. Maybe you could negotiate the price/barter your cool skills or something else. Also note, the weather has to be right for this activity to take place, so it could be a no go on the day you are there anyway.

My daughter's school principal and his wife went to Europe. Since I'd been there I coached them about things to see, places to stay, things to do.

After the trip, they did one thing I hadn't recommended - paraglided Tegelberg. The hotel they stayed at had several Australian couples who were keen on doing it so they tagged along. They had no problem hiring paragliders without reservations (and this was in high tourist season).

I'm fairly certain you can find a ride, I'm much less optimistic you will be able to do so without spending the money. I think Rick is painting an overly optimistic picture.

Contacting a club may be a good idea but I don't know of any.
