We just returned from the UK and Ireland, and noticed the teens were wearing 80s stuff... like leggins, big sweatshirts with the waist belt, neon shoe laces, and big sneakers.
The only way we knew we were in 2009 was the teenie boppers were yapping and texting on their mobile phones.
I am not sure if this is all over Europe but this was the attire in the UK and Ireland.
Isn't this happening all over? I have seen pictures of lots of US celebrities going to premieres wearing massive shoulder pads and 80s-style body con dresses. I saw a picture of Rhianna in the paper the other day and her clothes were straight out of the 80s!
I didn't notice this at all in May 2009 in Varenna and Venice Italy, Budapest, Prague, Montreux/Swiss Alps Switzerland BUT they were all over the place in Helsinki, Finland and Warsaw, Poland in June 2009...the leggings mostly. It was killing me...it was so hot and everyone was wearing leggings!

I see groups of girls walking past all the time with these leggings on with dresses.(I am downtown a lot where all the tourist attractions are and the tour buses stop to let out all the school groups) Except they aren't the same kind of leggings that we wore back in the 80's, they are more like tights, but with no feet in them. Lots of really short shorts and mini-skirts too. These will be German, French, Spanish and Japanese girls. I still see a lot of boots considering it is summer, folded down suede boots in various colors, as well as the knee high leather boots. Even in weather I think is way too hot to wear boots, I see girls with a sundress or mini-skirt on and wearing boots. Looks bizarre to me, but hey, its their feet! Converse shoes in every conceivable color and design are still massively big, the shoe stores are packed with them. Lots of flip-flops too. Men and women.

I noticed leggings and boots on girls last year in England. I agree I don't get wearing either leggings or boots in hot weather....guess you have to be a teen aged fashion victim! We were at a Game Fair at Blenheim Palace last summer and it was terribly hot and crowded and there were these girls in boots!!!
But the trend to wear leggings with minis is definitely real...which is actually quite practical....when it's not hot!!!!
I noticed it as well in the UK - While in London and north in Manchester, girls were wearing long sweaters and leggings. All colors of leggins, not just black. I even saw Hot Pink leggings with denim mini skirts and boots. Yes very 80s. I didnt think it was a matter of them not evolving with the fashion times, I just figured it has come full circle... to remind me of my high school days near the Valley....
I knew I should have saved those shoulder pads! My husband used to ask me if I was trying out for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Are leg warmers coming back too? Maybe not until it gets a little cooler. I thought that was the dumbest style ever. I love tights though, but NOT in summer.
We saw the leggings and shorts in winter last year!

Michelle, that is so funny, I noticed the same thing. They seemed to all be wearing black. In Paris, I noticed that the young girls were wearing Bobby Brown balloon pants, you know the ones that the seat of the pants hangs all the way down to the knees.
