We're downloading the 4 Paris Audioguides and had no trouble with the 2 Ipods we have. I bought my brother a new tiny 1GB Coby MP3 player. We plugged it in and iTunes didn't recognize the MP3 player (no "Hi Nancy, do you want to download the RSs Audioguides"...lovely) so we tried cutting and pasting to the Microsoft media software on our computer. It didn't work. Pretend you're talking to a small child when you walk me through this...I feel like one when I'm dealing with new tech., so it's OK. Hee, hee.
You can download the MP3 files without using iTunes here: http://www.ricksteves.com/news/travelnews/0602/italy_downloads.htm
The page says you can play them on any MP3 player or on your computer, so this should work for you. iTunes doesn't play nicely with other brands of MP3 players.
Sorry, for the France audiotours, go here:

This mp3 player requires Windows Media Player 11 which can be downloaded at Microsoft's Downloads website
- Plug in mp3 player into computer via USB cord
- Your computer should recognize the attached device, then go into "My Computer"r
- In My Computer, it should show the Coby mp3 player
- Open Windows Media Player 11.0 and it should also show the Coby MP3 device on the right side
- Add mp3 files by going to FILE > Add to Library or....on the bottom left hand corner click ADD to LIBRARY ....the mp3s should now be listed in the library Select all or select each file, RIGHT-click and choose ADD TO > SYNC LIST
- on the bottom right hand corner click on a button called START SYNC
- After completed syncing, unmount/disconnect COBY player and try it out
You might want to post a title to your question to get more responses. I did the same thing a while back only to find out that if you use quotes in your text, the website deletes the text.
Thanks Eric...hmm it showed up for awhile (technologically challenged indeed)!
Thanks Nancy & Marlene. I spent the afternoon working through this and after downloading the newer Media Player version I was able to get it to work...mostly. For some reason it keeps putting the first and last segments of each audioguide into an "Unknown Artist" folder. I've tried it several times and it looks like it's syncing to the right place, but it doesn't. Then I tried pulling up what's on the MP3 player and moving it. Well, it moved it to the right audioguide, but it put those 2 pieces (beg. & end) at the very end even though it shows it on the list in the correct order. This is so frustrating. If you have any other tips, let me know. Trust me- I'm thrilled it's finally working at all! Thanks!
