I have heard that you can not take packaged meat into Italy, I am hoping this does not apply to Fish. My daughter is allergic to milk and soy, so I hoped to pack individual servings of salmon jerky and other packaged snacks. I am sure once she gets her bearings, she will be able to find things to eat, but salmon is so high in vitamins she needs, I really would like her to be able to take this along. Does anyone know it this will be a problem?
Also can she take it in her carry-on or should she pack it in her checked bag?
How old is your daughter? There are plenty of suitable substitutes available.
Holly, I have carred the vacuum-packed smoked salmon (Portlock) that doesn't require refrigeration, and never gave it a thought. But your question caused doubt so I thought I would check to be sure, and fish is OK. Their concern is with meat and milk products. This is from the EU customs website: "For fishery products (including fish and certain shellfish such as prawns, lobsters, dead mussels and dead oysters), travellers are allowed to bring in up to 20 kilograms or the weight of one fish if this is higher. However, there is no such weight restriction for travellers coming from the Faeroe Islands or Iceland."
