Hi. We have been thinking about booking 2 RS tours back to back - GAS and then Prague and Budapest.
Does anyone have any advice on that, positives/negatives? Thank you.
I have done it twice with the primary reason being it saves money by not paying for another roundtrip transatlantic flight. I also used the time between the tours to travel on my own to a few other places.
This year I did Berlin, Prague & Vienna followed by My Way Alps four days later. I used those 4 days and drove around Germany to revisit some places I lived and visited while in the Air Force in the mid 70's.
The other time in 2011 I did South Italy followed by Paris and the Heart of France. Between these trips I visited Lugano Switzerland, took the Bernina Express train excursion and rode the TGV train from Zurich to Paris. Several bucket list events checked off.
If you have the time and the money I can see no negatives if they are places you want to visit...Why wait until next year?
janodavo,
The GAS then Prague and Budapest sounds great. I would just give myself several days in between tours to rest up my legs and get at least one massage. I mean it. I left Vienna two days after the GAS (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) ended in Vienna and flew to Istanbul for six days. Once in Istanbul I knew a needed a massage concentrating on my legs. Of course, I went to a Hamam which gives great massages. It was necessary. Without the massage I knew I would hurt myself. The GAS involves a lot of up and down as well as flat walking.
Before meeting the tour in Trier. I had biked between two towns on the Rhine and spent two days already in Trier. The GAS IS an active tour. Prague and Budapest are lovely as well. Have a wonderful trip!

jan,
Taking two RS tours back-to-back is a great idea, as that means you'll only have to pay for one return flight to Europe. However, I do most definitely agree with the others that it's a good idea to leave a few days between tours, as they can be quite active (ie: tiring) and you'll need a short time to recuperate. Having a good massage is a great idea (why didn't I think of that).
It's also nice to have a few days to savour the experiences and good times you had with your first group on the first tour, before overwhelming that with new experiences and a new group.
Thanks to all of you and your much appreciated advice. Ready to tackle more of the bucket list!
We have done 3 back to back tours (Turkey & Greece--UK & Scotland--South Italy & Sicily). Same reasons others stated, cost of flying from West Coast. Rick use to have some tours which included more days in the itinerary, and we were intested in those. Our back to backs have started the second tour on the same day as the first was completed and others had some days between. We search the tours schedules to try and find a limited time between for $ sake. Normally we spend extra time on our own before or after a tour. This fall was The Heart of France followed by a our own week in London. We've been fortunate to have spent up to a month on our own wondering Europe and now have completed 14 ETBD with Rick's company. Hope you enjoy your back to back choice.
I've done several back to backs as had others on my recent Best of England tour. One discussion we had centered on what tours to match up. One couple did Portugal and followed it with Best of England. Another couple was doing Best of England followed by Ireland. They decided it was better to do dissimilar cultures instead of doing cultures that might have similar food and entertainment.
Things might work differently for you, but it's something to consider when you make your plans.
