Take a Unique Class in a European City

Hello, there!

I am planning a sort of European grand tour next summer, hitting several countries. As a way of learning something new and maybe experiencing a city in a different way, I'd love to take a few classes. I've heard of taking a cooking class in Paris or a glass blowing workshop in Italy. Any other recommendations? Maybe you haven't taken a class personally but you have a thought about something that might be fun? Any insight would be helpful!

Thank you!

I've read that there are at least a couple of places in Ravenna, Italy where you can learn how to make mosaics, along with being inspired by seeing the real Byzantine mosaics.

In summer 2015 I took a wonderful one day mosaics course in Ravenna at Koko Mosaico. Great people, intense personal attention, wonderful studio and I learned SO much about materials, glass, tools, etc. I left at the end of the day with my own 8" square mosaic ready for hanging and the confidence to return home and continue making mosaics on my own. Can't recommend this studio and class highly enough!

You can learn to row a gondola in Venice. Haven't done it myself but have read of others here on the forum who have. This company has been mentioned on the forum.

My wife and I try to find a cooking class in each country that we visit. We have had classes in Prague, Budapest, Madrid, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. The classes are either small groups or one on one with the instructor. Often they take in the instructors home. Four hours in the kitchen of a native of Prague or Budapest gives you lots of time to discuss much more than just cooking. Highly recommended!

Depending on your interests, you can also look into free public lectures by colleges and universities. In London, for example, Gresham College and the London School of Economics offer many such talks.

I know a lady that gives cooking classes in her working class apartment in Budapest. Great way to see how people live and learn to cook. She meets you at the market hall and you shop together for ingredients, then retire to her apartment to cook. Just you, her and a bottle of Palinka.

I know another place where you can learn how to drive a Russian tank..... :}
