T-Mobile 55+ program perfect for this forum.

They don't advertise it but they offer 2 lines unlimited data for $60 per month total. The catch is you must be 55 years or older (which should be easy for most of us here). Of course T-Mobile includes international roaming which makes it a no brainer for travelers, having your regular phone with no restrictions is a real game changer for traveling.

I had T-Mobile back in 2010, when I went to Scandinavia. International roaming wasn't a very good deal then. They advertised $1.99 per minute but the fine print was much higher, especially in Russia. Have they become more competitive with their pricing?

Right now I'm with Ultra Mobile, which uses T-Mobile's system. I get unlimited data (but throttled after 5 gb), calls etc. for $40 per month plus I can call landlines in 60 countries for free (and get some minutes to call foreign cell phones).

I don't actually use it when I'm traveling, I buy a local SIM instead, but it's great for making and confirming reservations before a trip.

We had a place here advertise unlimited data. When I asked, the guy said, "well..... the first gig is 4G LTE then it slows down to unlimited 2G" which is basically useless.

So in other words, it was a gig of data. 2G wouldn't get me anywhere. So I thanked him and continued my search.

Maybe ask what the fine print says. If it truly is unlimited 4G LTE then I just may have to make a switch!!

Both Brads need to update their plan...especially Brad in Greeley. For the same amount you could have unlimited everything, including international.

Also...dont be suckered into buying the phone from the carrier only to be tied to their service. Buy an unlocked phone which doesn't cost any more than a locked one.

TMobile has been great for us the last two summers traveling in Europe, plus the trips I've had to take to Europe for work. I rely on the internet for work, and it's pretty good. In some places, it was outstanding...way better than at home. The Swedish archipelago comes to mind....fantastic reception. Unlimited data and texts, calls were .20/minute and excellent clarity.

Thanks, Bob, I looked up the Doc. I had stopped at a T Mobile store and received yet again different information. Then, I called service and sure enough the international rate in Italy to a non T mobile phone will or has gone up to $0.30/min. I do not know where it is posted. All T Mobile new customers are a T Mobile One customer. It is possible to add 3-4 G speed in those countries outside the US, Canada and Mexico, that have it, for a fee.

I have used T-Mobile for several years, now. I have two lines for a total of $100.00, which includes tax and other fees. It would be $120.00, but I chose autopay which saves $10.00 per line. I have made calls for .20 minute. I usually use wifi for data, but have been out and about and looked up information. Data can be slow, but for the money I can't complain. One other thing, I have all updates scheduled to download when connected to wifi.

We switched to T-Mobile in January 2016 and I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the international advantages over AT&T. It came in very handy during our two trips to Europe last year, especially for using google maps while driving. My hubby isn't old enough for the 55+ plan (I robbed the cradle ;-)), but I am. We changed everything into my name and are now saving a lot of money.

We signed up 2 weeks ago. We have 2 phones (2 phone numbers)v unlimited everything. To get this price for $60 forever (they claim it won't be raised) you must use auto pay. No big deal. It's paid via cc for us.

I posted about this about three weeks ago when it was originally announced.

I've been using TMobile in Europe for a decade now. I would be lost without it. We did screw up once many years ago. At the time South Africa wasn't on their plan and i didn't realize it. When the bill got to something like $1000 they contacted me. Then after a pleasant conversation the credited back all but a few hundred. Made me a life time customer.

I forgot to mention another thing I love about TMobile - wifi calling. Whenever I am under wifi, I can call for free to the US. It's not a cellular charge. I know WhatsApp allows this, but it's really nice that it's just automatic.

I discovered T-mobile here, on the Forum. I had pay as you go and switched to regular account several years ago because their international plan was better than any other company. Then, when the battle between Verzion and T-mobile began I quickly switched my plan for the all inclusive plan. Like I previously posted, with auto pay savings of $20.00, my bill is a flat rate of $100 per month.

Couple of questions from a techno-neophyte. Yes, we still exist. I do not have a cell phone (gasp!!!!) except for a pay-as-you-go phone through AT&T for US travel. Why, you ask? Because I do not get cell service at home and cell service anywhere near here is spotty at best.
For Europe, I have a dumb phone and get a Sim card when there.
Would this T-Mobile plan be better for me overall or should I just keep what I have? I use the European phone to update family via text messages and occasional calls. I do get concerned that I can't provide State Dpt with tele number while in Europe but is there something else I should be thinking about?

Debra,
You are overpaying for your phone. For $40 less per month you could have two lines! If you are under 55 you should pay no more than $70 for a single line. You have an old plan that they should have upgraded but none of the phone companies are that honest. Call them and change your plan.

Well, duh!! Guess I didn't read your posting carefully, was reading it as 60.00 per line (red faced with embarrassment) . Thanks for directly calling my attention. Geez, guess I need to slow down and think. Thanks again. Have phone in hand and will contact promptly.

Edit****
Just taken care of, checked for information online, did not want to go to store, so called. Also, in the FAQ's it does state that one must request the change, otherwise the account remains as is.

Again, thanks.

For those considering T-Mobile who live somewhat off the beaten path, make sure you check coverage before jumping into something irreversible. Coverage down the the boonies of Georgia is non-existent in some areas. Even Verizon will drop calls on some stretches, but it's by far the best coverage overall, so I'm willing to pay more to know my phone will work when I need it.

I have zero Tmobile coverage at my house, but it's not an negative for me as I can use Tmobile's WiFi service on my Iphone to overcome this. On the plus side the sound quality of a voice calls on WiFi is much clearer than any signal from a tower.
