Hi all! We are spending 2 weeks in mid-late June 2026 in Switzerland and trying to nail down our itinerary for the second week. Week 1 we have booked an apartment in Lauterbrunnen doing all things Berner Oberland/alpine mountains/ etc. What I need help with is week 2. It will be my husband and I and our almost 10 year old daughter. My daughter saw the Europa-Park amusement park north of Freiburg im Breisgau, and asked that we work it into our trip. My thought was to make use of the Switzerland/France/Germany borders and visit some small towns and cities along the Rhine corridor there (to contrast our first week hiking and outdoor adventures). I am also trying to keep to a minimum of 2 nights in each place since it works better with our daughter. Just looking to get some feedback or see if anyone has other suggestions that might work well for us or stopover ideas for our transfer days.
We are thinking of a week (7 nights) split amongst:
3 nights in Basel or Colmar - was originally planning Basel, but we will likely overlap Art Basel days so maybe switch to Colmar to avoid the hotel prices? We would probably do a day trip to whichever one we didn’t stay in. Maybe if we are able to book early enough in Basel, we can avoid the higher prices?
2 nights north of Freiburg near Europa-Park
2 nights in Lucerne or Zurich before we fly back to the US.
Saturday Day 1- transfer Lauterbrunnen to Colmar or Basel. Stopover in Bern on the way?
Sun Day 2 - stay in Colmar or Basel
Mon Day 3 - day trip to whichever town we don’t sleep in, Basel or Colmar
Tues Day 4 - Transfer to Germany, maybe stop in Strasbourg or Gengenbach on the way if coming from Colmar, sleep at/near Rust/Europa-Park
Wed Day 5- day at Europa-Park
Thurs Day 6 - Transfer back to Lucerne or Zurich, stop somewhere on the way like Freiburg?
Fri Day 7 - Lucerne or Zurich
Saturday Day 8- fly home from Zurich
