Switzerland France border

Hi, we are hoping for information on a place in France, with easy access to Geneva, via train or whatever is easiest and fastest. We don’t have much time in Geneva but want to visit united Nation building, Red Cross, Flower Clock, Jet d Eau fountain and whatever else we have time for. (Both are closer to 80 rather than 70 in age ). We are arriving from Chamonix on May 11. Apparently bus schedule not available as yet.
Would appreciate any and all information and suggestion. Reason for staying in France? Not as expensive as Geneva. Thank you

Annemasse is a Geneva suburb in France. Te 61 bus connects it to Geneva Cornevin Station where you can get a tram to anywhere in the city.

Thank you so very much. One more question, I’m not that good on internet but have been looking for train or bus that goes from Chamonix to Annemasse? Couldn’t find train connections. Came across ride share from Chamonix to Annemasse which is half the time of bus ride. Does anyone know about ride share? Thanks again😊

Sorry, I meant Annecy. My eyes and brain feels like mush because of research. Hope I got it right this time.

Problem seems to be that the railroad between Chamonix and St Gervais les Bains is closed for maintenance that time of year. You can get trains from St Gervais les Bains to Annecy or Annemasse May 11. I would think that there is a replacement bus service while the rail line is closed, but you'll have to stretch that brain a bit more to research this in detail,

If you want EASY access to Geneva from France, the city of Ferney-Voltaire is right across the border (just north of the airport). It's right on the bus F line which also goes right past the UN and Red Cross Museum. I know there was a hotel right across the border and you could check with booking.com. I lived near the UN and would take that bus to church in Ferney-V.; maybe a 10 min ride. I would also shop at the French grocery store there, Champion, which is a short walk from that hotel.

You can see for yourself on the bus map you download at http://www.geneva.info/public-transport/map/big/geneva-public-transport-map.jpg It is right at the top.

Annecy would be my first choice based on its attractiveness. As mentioned previously, Ferney-Voltaire is right next door to the airport and close to Geneva. While it's not a beautiful town, it's perfectly fine, and there are plenty of amenities (a great cheese shop included) and several hotels. And if you find yourself hungry in the middle of the night, there's a 24-hour pizza machine: https://mainelywinenews.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-final-day-of-our-trip.html

Thanks for the link to blablacar. I had heard about it on a trip. It was recommended as a way to get from Amboise to Chartres. I searched for an app but didn't find one. I ended up taking a train to Paris and saving Chartres for another trip. Hopefully blablacar will come in handy.

Thanks Ashley. Really appreciate your response. We are definitely going by bus, (dependable) rather than ride share. Thank you! 😊

Please also note that there is a new train connection between Annecy and Geneva, taking a little over an hour. Check Leman Express on your favorite search engine for more info. Never tried it myself, but should be more comfortable than the bus to Geneva (Transalis T72 or 74, forgot the exact line no.)
