Switzerland and Italy in 2 weeks

Hi!
I want to plan my honeymoon in Switzerland and Italy for two weeks at the end of August/start of September. We are a very active couple and enjoy hiking and the lake/ocean. I was thinking about 5 or 6 nights in Switzerland in the Alps and Interlacken and then traveling down to Venice and the Amalfi coast or vice versa. I have not ever been to Europe and would love any insight on if this plan makes sense, how far the travel is between each place and any suggestions on places to stay and best hikes/things to do. We want to stay at nice places but nothing over the top. I appreciate any insight into a Switzerland/Italy trip. We would like to avoid the bigger cities and more into hiking, biking, snorkeling, pretty sights, cute towns and activities. We are not big museum people.

Thank you in advance!

We recommend basing at a smaller town near Interlaken, but closer to the mountains themselves, such as Lauterbrunnen (in the valley) or Gimmelwald or Muerren (higher altitude, bigger view).

You can certainly connect your next Italian destinations by train, 5 - 7 hours each. How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. You can also see an overview of train travel time on Rick’s Train Travel Time & cost Map. If you want to compare flights, try www.skyscanner.com.

Do you have your longer flights planned yet? Such as into Zuerich and home from an Italian city? Amalfi coast hotels could be pretty booked up already for summer travel.

Switzerland is wonderful and others have provided you with great suggestions. Still, Switzerland is very expensive and costs run about 50% more there than in Germany, Austria, France or Italy. Avoid the large cities in Switzerland. Go to the Youngfrau from Interlacken.

Venice is great as worth 2-3 day minimum. Tuscany is fantastic. Biking through the Tuscan countryside is fun. Florence is a suggestion. Are you skipping Rome in favor of snorkeling?

The Sistine Chapel is the most amazing work of art in the World, don't miss it.

As for snorkeling, I am told that Cinque Terre is a great place for that. The Amalfi coast is nice, as is Capri and Sorrento, don't know about snorkeling.
