Hi all,
I am thinking of surprising my husband with a trip next year over his birthday, he turns 60. I was thinking of RS tour VFR, but at least this year, it doesn’t go that early in the year. His b day is March, 5th
Any experienced tour members know if this tour ever goes that early in the year, or another tour that might? I know next years tours don’t come out for awhile.

Using the internet wayback machine, I found the 2018 tour page. Looks like VFR tours started in earnest on March 2. Call the RS folks to find out for sure.

If they don't start early enough in the year, you could book the trip for a few weeks later. Then get the guidebook and don't forget the Italian language book, it's worth it's weight in gold! Print the confirmation from the RS people and copies of any other confirmations that you have made. Box them up really pretty and give them to him on his birthday. He will have time to enjoy them before you go,
and read and research what he wants to do in free time! My hubby and I have taken 7 RS tours. We always get the language book as soon as we book the tour. At dinnertime we get it out and quiz each other with the easy, polite phrases. It makes it more comfortable when you want to say something in Italian and don't have to look it up. And you get more smiles that way.

This year, we have already operated the VFR tours departing 2/18, 3/4, and 3/8 but, since they are past, they have dropped off the web booking page. In 2020, similar dates are tentatively scheduled, but which dates actually open for sale will partly depend on demand.

My son did what Mimi suggests... he bought a RS Paris guide book, put plane tickets in the book, wrapped it and gave it to me at my birthday party that he organized. I was blown away. Best gift ever.

Nice idea.
I know its a year away, but make sure his passport is in order with plenty of time before the trip - no last minute stress required
