Supermoon tonight--- where will you be to see it?

Here in Seattle, moonrise will be at 5:18 pm, after dark. Hopefully the skies will clear by then.

Wishing good viewing to all! The moon will not be as close to earth again for many years.

We have rain in the forecast for the next 3 days, chances of sky clearing tonight are slim. Bummer.

We will head for the local park where a very engaged teacher in town will have multiple telescopes set up, and will be helping people to use them, explaining what's happening and why. We had a 5:30 a.m. walk today and saw the last of the almost full moon. I think the only good thing about drought here in Southern California is the stargazing, and moongazing.

I will be seeing it from my upstairs deck at home in teeny, tiny (no city lights) Franktown, Colorado. I did see the moonset this am; it was spectacular! Mostly clear skies forecast for today, tonight and tomorrow.....

Cloudy skies in Paris tonight have ruined the moon sighting, unfortunately.
Too bad I won't get to see the next one : {

Saw it last night from the backyard. It takes a lot to get me off the couch at night, but this was worth it.

Stan--same here! I actually ventured out into my backyard to get an unobstructed view and startled the raccoon family that visits for dinner.

I am seeing it as it rises over downtown Montreal. It is sort of pale orange in colour. Very exciting.

Will enjoy it again tonight here at home. Last night/early this morning it was incredibly beautiful!

Imagining how magical it would be walking along the shore under such moonlight in Virgin Gorda,
St. Johns, or Hawaii!!!

We are supposed to have clear skies here in South Texas!

Rising huge and orange in the clear Eastern sky in the outskirts of Atlanta. A magical sight - especially after a day hazy with smoke from the wildfires in North Georgia. Praying for rain....

Amazingly bright from my front porch.

Now, who has booked reservations in the path of next summer's solar event?

It's cloudy in St. Louis so no chance of seeing it tonight.

Wasn't there another supermoon in the middle of September? I saw that one from here and it was beautiful. I remember Neil DeGrasse-Tyson talking about it. He compared it to a pizza. The regular moon is like a 14" pizza and the supermoon is like a 16" pizza.

I took a lot of photographs as the moon rose tonight over Massachusetts Bay, which is just down the street. It also was an incredibly low tide. Just the right amount of clouds in the sky to give it a little drama.

Thanks for reminding me -- just walked out and took a look from my front porch. Big!!

I too just walked out for a look. A faint glow behind a cloud layer. Can't tell whether it was any bigger or not. If it was a pizza, it was mozzarella. But thanks for getting me outside, at least it isn't raining. The PNW is not the ideal place to live if you're into stargazing and such. As Lola knows! ;-)

We did have about an 18-foot tidal range today in Puget Sound, which is pretty big even for here.

Drove home from the Bay Area tonight with the moon following our left shoulder. When we turned east at the Gaviota coast corner we felt like we needed to put our "moon visors" down.

Here in Seattle we had to wait until the cloud layer thinned a bit before we could see it. By then, 3+ hours after moonrise, it looked like a normal moon, not a huge orange harvest moon. But on the radio we heard it is only a few hundred miles closer to the Earth than usual---not a huge difference in context.

Driving back to the farm. It was a partly cloudy sky and clouds semi surrounded the moon, looked like a moon on fire due to refraction.

If you missed last night, there is another supper moon ( though not as large) on December 14th

^ ^ stop it-great cycling and great beer beats a "supermoon" every time.
