Sunglasses

I always bring a pair of sunglasses when vacationing to block out the sun and sometimes to avoid making eye contact. However, I misplaced a pair of Oakleys and left behind another Oakley pair at my close friend's place while vacationing. Both were stylish, firm grip, and the irridium, polarized lens blocked the sun rays quite well. My current Oakley Darts are stylish but non-polarized which doesn't block the rays well. I've never used any other but Oakleys. What other kinds of shades block rays from the sun really well?

Marlene,
I love wearing Ray-Bans. They are very stylish and are excellent when it comes to their lens. I would suggest you try them out.

Marlene it depends on your style. You may be an Oakley girl, but some people don't like the way it fits.

The only way to see what looks best and feels best is to try on multiple ones. Going to a Sunglass shop (ie: Sunglass Hut) and trying on a bunch is probably the best way to go.

Ironically I found my favorite ones at Brighton's and Fossil... which really surprised me that it wasn't at a traditional sunglass place.

You can get a pair of decent polarized sunglasses that are the Oakley style for around $40 at golf and sports stores. Just go try them on...

I personally don't like spending lots (more than $50) on a pair of sunglasses considering how easy they are to break, scratch or loose. I always found Oakleys broke way too soon for how much they cost and they try to up-sell you on technology that is a load of bunk.

Pretty much all you need is UV protection and polarization if you want to cut the glare (but not read digital watches and LCD screens from an angle).

That is my advice...

I personally love Smith sunglasses. I made the switch to them from Oakley about 10 years ago and still use that same pair everyday.

They have a version called a Slider which features interchangeable lenses. You can easily switch out the lenses from dark to whatever. I often switch from my regular polarized brown to yellow when I go mountain biking in the evening.

As soon as I hear "Ray-Bans" I think of Gypsies selling them...I've seen knock offs sold on the street for what initially seems like a good deal. If you look closely, some sold on the street are not genuine but imposters with look-alike labels.

Be careful, some of which have very little, if any, eye protection that you would expect from the genuine brand. I've seen this in LIS and OPO Portugal but I'm sure it happens elsewhere, as well.
