Suiter

I need to start taking suits/sports jackets on the road with me(including some upcoming European trips.) My current carry-on (21x13.5x9) doesn't come with a suiter. Any suggestions on one I can buy separately that will fit in my case and keep my suits wrinkle free? Thanks

And when you get to your hotel, unpack, hang your suit/jacket/trousers on a decent hanger(s), close the bathroom door, turn the shower on 'hot', let the steam build a bit, turn off the shower, hook the hangers on the shower rod for about 15 mins -magic, the wrinkles are gone. Remove the clothes from the bathroom, let them air, and you're good for a few days.

I would invest in a multi-voltage universal travel steamer(ensure you bring the plug adapter)or bring a travel iron and a pillow case. (Never iron directly on suit or you could leave scorch marks hence the pillow case). It's more practical than a suiter. You can touch up any clothes needed.

For me the necessity of suits rules out the hand luggage only option.

The only reason I would pack suits is if I'm on a business trip. If you are going to try getting suits and sports jackets into your hand luggage allowance then the best thing to do is have them pressed once you get to your hotel and stick the cost onto your expenses claim.

If it's important to wear a suit then it's also important that the suit looks right. If you're doing this for business purposes don't compromise. Either take your suits in a purpose built suitcase or get them professionally pressed.

Back in the early 1990's, I had a Travelpro carry-on with a built in suiter. It worked wonders. I could pack either one suit, or a sport jacket and dress pants, and they would come out fine.

So, I know it's possible to pack a suit in a carry-on, without jumping through hoops to make it look good. I'm just trying to find someone who makes a separate one that isn't aleady attached to the bag.

I recently found the Eagle Creek Pack-It Garment Sleeve which should do the trick but was wondering if there was anything else.

Frank,

I've looked at Eagle Creek's packing folder, it's great for shirts and slacks but I don't think a suit would do so well in it.

You might want to look at the Tough Traveler Tri-Zip. It's a carryon size convertable bag with a removable suitor. It's kind of pricy, but it's very well built and one of Doug Dyment's (onebag.com) recommended carryon bags. According to the Tough Traveler website, you can buy the "carryon sized" suitor seperately. The RedOxx Air Boss draws rave reviews for busienss travel, but again it's pricy.

The Eagle Creek Garment Sleeve is not the same as the packing folders. It's a garment bag that folds down to 21x131x2......photos show it holding a suit. I think it's fairly new.

The guy at onebag.com has a lot advice that is targeted to the businees traveller along with some links to bags that cater to the one bag concept, packing etc....

As Flight Crew we often have to Deadhead with our Uniform/Blazer etc in our Roller/Carry-on. Our luggage is Travel Pro. They make one that has a special hanger for this purpose.

You could also take a piece of thin plexiglass and wrap your suit around it by folding it in thirds. You could also wrap one of those drycleaning thin plastic bags over it first. That works if you don't want to buy new luggage.

You can also get a lightweight but durable Garment by Samsonite. It cost about 29 bucks at the Samsonite store recently. It folds in half. It has two handles, one at top and bottom that I hook around the handle of my Roller/Carry-on on the outside. It also has a handy zip pocket on both the front and back. I've had many people ask where I found it.

Don't forget, you are welcome to use the closet on board the Aircraft. (Just don't forget to pick it up on your way out!)
