Does anyone have a good suggested suitcase around 24" that doesn't twist, buckle or fall over while being pulled over cobblestones?
I guess that you are planning on checking in that sized suitcase when you fly as it exceeds most every airlines carry on size rules. I just came back from 23 days in G/A/S with my 21" RS roller bag and drug it over all kinds of ground including cobblestones and had no problems as has been the case for the last 10 years.
A 24" is large and will be heavy. Don't get a spinner and make sure the wheels are large and well attached. After that it doesn't make much difference.
PT - I purchased a 24" Rick Steves Roll-About a couple of years ago. It's not available on this site but you can buy it from other online luggage sites (just google it). It's about $179 and is very similar to the 21" Roll-Aboard. It's a good quality suitcase but I've only used it a few times - prefer the smaller sized 21" which can be carried on the plane (or not). Both have good wheels.
An elderly friend of my daughter, who had been a world traveler, recently decided that, at mid 70s, he wasn't going to travel anymore, so he gave away all of his travel bags. My daughter picked out a 21" rollaboard, of a popular name, for my wife. It was described as 21", but from wheels to handle, it was 23". Internally, however, it was only 19". Same for the width, although 14" wide outside, the internal width was only 12". It weighed 8# 6.2 oz. My wife, who has a 2¾# RS convertible, looked at the internal dimensions, declared that it was not big enough, and gave it back.
PT - My wife uses a 25" bag she purchased from ebags.com. I can not get her to convert to the carryon method.
PT, you might try the AAA in Spokane. The one in Lewiston does carry the bigger wheeled RS bags.
Thank you, everyone, for replying. My mom has the RS bag, but I didn't know if she was a good overall test subject. I like the idea of the carryon, but I'm not quite sure if I'm at that point yet. What happened on my last the trip is that my suitcase would get overbalanced on the uneven cobblestones and would twist and buckle before attempting a successful flip. I was so stressed that I drug it sideways running for the shuttle (I used a suitcase that converted to a backpack in Rottenburg, but that bag fell recently fell apart). I think I'll take a chance on the RS bag. Does anyone know if they resolved the fairly recent construction issues? Thank you.
Joel, I have no problem with your wife's 25 inch rollaboard, as long as she follows the rules and checks it. I don't want to see that behemoth taking up too much space in the overhead bin.
Lee, Yes my wife checks her monster. She is also responsible for getting her bag off and on transportation.
