Looking to add on to a Norway cruise that finishes in Amsterdam this July 2027.
I’m searching for a beautiful, uncrowded destination reachable within a 6-hour train ride.
No major crowded hubs like Paris, and skipping Italy entirely. Ideally looking for charming small towns, nature, or scenic river valleys where I can relax away from the massive summer tourist crowds.Any hidden gems or favorite quiet routes you’d recommend? Thanks!
Within 6 hours is a wide range. Seriously? Visit the untouristed Luxembourg, and make sure you visit the countryside. Public transport there is free. It is a beautiful country and not overrun with visitors. Trains go via Brussels.

The Dutch Frisian Islands- at least it's the same country. Train to one of several ports then ferry.
In July they will be at their busiest, but with the Dutch people, as the islands are not well known internationally. They have the nature and the charming small towns, but are mainly beach style places- so not scenic river valleys.

Beautiful and scenic without tourists in peak summer? Not likely
Hotels in a place with no tourists in peak summer? Why would they bother?
Railway in a place where few people go? Expect the level of service to match.
Scenic river valley in NW Europe? Check the map, you go a long way from Amsetrdam to find somewhere with that sort of terrain. The exception being the Ardennes especially in Luxembourg as suggested. A place like Clervaux, except it is a tourist hub. It has a train service, but not direct from Amsterdam, you need to change trains twice and it's not a fast journey because of that.
I realise “no tourists” was probably unrealistic. I have been to Europe many times peak and off peak - so sorry if you thought it was an unrealistic request . I was really just looking for somewhere a little quieter than the obvious destinations, with good scenery Thanks for the Luxembourg suggestion
there is another reason on top of the scenery why the Clervaux area may appeal to some americans, it was in the "Battle of the Bulge" area in December 1944 and there are various memorials to US forces etc dotted around.
Dordrecht looked pretty, although we didn't make it there. Canals, relatively close to Kinderdijk with a water ferry, National Park across the river. It is a city rather than a small town, though.
Mosel Valley. Train to Koblenz in about 3 hours. Change there for Cochem, Trier or Luxembourg, as mentioned by another commenter. Cochem does get busy with tourists, but some of the surrounding towns, less so.
