Just throwing this out there to experiences & passionate European Travelers,
We have traveled to Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Scotland, Ireland, Iceland, Portugal and Spain. We have tickets for the Passion Play in Germany in September and would like to add another country to the trip. What countries do you love? We like nature & small cities over refined restaurants & busy cities. We are over 60, retired but active. Looking forward to what you suggest!
Czech Republic and/or Hungary.
I agree with Czech Republic. If Prague is too big you might consider Český Krumlov.
Agree, the Czech Republic and Hungary would be an excellent choice.
Head for Prague then south to Budapest.
Poland. So many great small cities, as well as their larger ones. Easy to get around, very inexpensive, friendly people.
You might consider the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a huge and wonderful city and very much worth a visit, but there are so many beautiful towns and smaller cities outside the area, like Hoorn, Leiden, den Haag, Utrecht and so on. If you like to bike, it's easy to rent a bike and travel from one town to the next. And it's right next to Germany so it's easy to get to.
But I would also agree with any of the other recommendations named above. :)
Czech or Poland would be my recommendations. Can't do wrong with either. I've only really been to Prague in Czech, but have been to a number of places in Poland, Krakow and Gdansk being my faves.
Slovakia. Many Americans still don't travel there.
Those are excellent suggestions! Thank you!
