I am going on a 7 day Northern European Cruise. I wanted some suggested ready for each city/country. We are going to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, Tallinn, and St Petersburg. I am interested in historical works, culturally significant novels, and any reading beyond traditional travel guidebooks. I'm looking forward to suggestions.

Under "Explore Europe" at left, choose a country, then "Plan," then results such as https://www.ricksteves.com/europe/sweden/books-movies. These are also in Rick's Scandinavia guidebook, but not in Northern European Cruise Ports.

How Finland achieved its independence? From whom? With whose aid? Under whose leadership under what circumstances, etc? If interested, I suggest "Russia and the West under Lenin and Stalin" by GF Kennan, a classic scholarly work, and "The White Generals" (forgot the author's name), ie, the relevant pages in both of these.
