Streetwise Edinburgh map -- 3 grand, but only $4.95 shipping

I've joined in several discussions of the beloved Streetwise maps, and am so glad they've been resurrected by Michelin. We're looking ahead to a possible trip to Scotland next year, and I was just idly wondering if there was a Streetwise Edinburgh map. There is, of course, available for $7.95.

When the maps were out of print and becoming scarce, some of the online shopping algorithms were putting exorbitant prices on the remaining stock. Apparently, those listings are still out there. Here's the highest price I've ever seen for one of these. But hey, only $4.95 shipping. What a bargain!

Yes, I've see the crazy scare prices on Amazon for out of print maps and even quilting books !!! Fortunately I found a local travel store that still had some Streetwise maps - I love them.....

Also found this bit of news when I did a google search for Streetwise maps.
"Nov 21, 2017 - MICHELIN EXPANDS ITS MAP COVERAGE. Pleased to continue the legacy of STREETWISE®, Michelin has purchased this 30+ year-old map company to complement its own internationally-renowned cartographic collection in order to offer travelers comprehensive and accurate travel publications."

I'm so relieved that the fabulous Streetwise maps will continue to be produced, they're always my first choice and I have a good-sized collection now.

What am I missing? We have always along very well with the cheap maps given out by the hotel. We can tear 'em up, mark 'em up, and get a clean one the next day.

I think I saw this very Streetwise map yesterday at a Barnes & Noble yesterday for ~$7.99?

It's all personal preference, of course. The Streetwise maps are sturdy, laminated, very detailed and fold up quickly to stick in a back pocket. They don't get wet or torn up and last forever. I've used them on many trips and, just as much if not more, before the trip to get a sense of where things are before we go.

I admit that, on our trip to Italy last year, when I had Streetwise maps for Venice, Florence and Rome, I used my phone more. One reason for that is that I have a horrendous sense of direction and always, always, always turn the wrong way when beginning a walk. The GPS apps where I can follow along and see which way I'm going help me get started in the right direction. What I don't like about using the phone is that I find myself just looking at my little blue dot on the phone as we walk along and paying less attention to my surroundings. The best solution for me would be to use the GPS to make sure I'm starting in the right direction, then put it away and periodically check my handy Streetwise map to reaffirm my bearings.
