Stranded by Eurostar in London

We have Eurostar tickets to travel to Paris Monday morning and all trains for Monday are now cancelled. Does anyone know of another way to get to Paris from London? Flights are also a problem. Help please!!

Patty,

The only other option I can think of would be Eurolines (Bus) from London Victoria Coach station. The journey isn't quick but if they have seats available, it might be something to consider. The Buses travel via Ferry from Dover.

Have you checked flights from London to Amsterdam, Frankfurt or other locations? From there take the TGV back to Paris.

Good luck!

It has been years since we have done it. But I assume the ferries still operate. Take a train to a port city, ferry across, and a train to Paris. We did via Portsmouth to LaHavre but that is to the south and a five hour crossing.

If the Eurolines coaches are full, your best train-ferry-train route probably would be a train from London to Dover, a P&O ferry from Dover to Calais, and trains (at least one connection) from Calais to Paris.

Thanks everyone! We have train tickets booked to Dover and a ferry booked to Calais. We weren't able to book train tickets online from Calais to Paris so we're going to do a lot of finger crossing that it all works out on that end. This is a nightmare for about 55000 people and we certainly aren't in as bad a shape as a lot of others are.

"This is a nightmare for about 55000 people "

Not all are "stranded", the vast majority are people, from the UK or mainland Europe, who have not been able to set off on their holidays and are probably waiting at home to see when they can get away. Those actually stranded on Sat/Sun/Mon by cancellations are able to claim reasonable board and lodging expenses from Eurostar.

The ones I feel really sorry for are those who are in the midst of their journeys and missing their onward connections. Just hope the airlines are showing them some compassion.

If you want to spare some good thoughts for those who are stranded, think about those stuck in airports in the MidAtlantic due to the blizzard Saturday. My daughter ended up in Philadelphia waiting for a Saturday evening connecting flight to the West Coast that never happened. After hours on hold on the phone, she's been rebooked for Tuesday and is sleeping on the floor in the pre-security area of the airport waiting for her flight because they chased people without confirmed flights within 24 hours out of the security-cleared zone. She's one of many thousands stranded and wishes that there were cross country ferries as alternatives!
