Storing luggage at train stations?

Planning a family trip to Europe and hope to travel with each person just using a carry on and a backpack.

My question is this: if we’re using the rail system and going from, say, Salzburg to Munich, but only want to spend the day in Munich before heading on, is there somewhere safe to store luggage at the train stations while we explore?

Munich’s central station has lockers where you can safely store luggage for the day. This is quite common in European cities, the same with Sazlburg.

Many rail stations have left-luggage service; in other cities you can often find a commercial operation located elsewhere by Googling luggage storage [name of city].

Another option is Nannybag (https://www.nannybag.com/en), a company that links travelers with places (like stores and cafes) willing to store bags.

Both Salzburg and Munich have coin lockers in the train stations. Have the 1 and 2 Euro coins handy.

But you ar right to check beforehand because many countries closed their locker service after bomb attacks years ago. I never count on it anymore in southern Europe. For example, in Girona, Spain, the one locker storage is a kilometer from the station. Nanny bag would be worth exploring depending on the hours of the business.

Munich Central is in the middle of a huge construction and not sure about storing luggage at the moment.
