Hopefully this is not considered a bizarre question.
When traveling in Europe, I don't carry a purse, just my Bandolier phone case, (credit cards and money) and a backpack, (for snacks and layers and guidebooks.)
Usually I carry my few rx's in an inside zipper jacket pocket, so keep them with me. I now have a new rx with a larger bottle, which may not fit in the jacket pocket. We will be in a cooler climate, so most likely will be wearying the jacket full-time.
Has anyone had issues with leaving meds in hotel rooms? I'm assuming not, but affirmation would be great. Thanks to all.
Hi Pat, I’ve always left my pills in my bedside bag or toiletry kit tucked into my suitcase. 20+ trips to Europe.
Hi Pat, my sister travels with multiple medications, including 3 controlled substances, and has never had any issues.
I try to get her to put them in her suitcase when she leaves the room, but she just leaves them out.
Hey Pat, I've never had a problem. I have them in a weekly pill container in my toiletries bag in the bathroom, and I just leave them there (the rest are in small ziplock bags in a separate pouch). Nothing's ever happened. If I had opioids, I would probably put them away, but I wouldn't be carrying narcotics to Europe (at least, I hope I wouldn't have to). 😊
I leave the 7-day container in the room, usually in my suitcase or put in a drawer if I'm using the drawers. Also any of the little zipper plastic bags I use to carry what I need if the trip lasts more than 7 days goes with the 7-day container. I put them all in a large ziploc in case the 7-day container pops open in transit.
But I also have a tiny pill box about the size of the little tins Bayer aspirin used to come in that lives in a pocket in my purse with 7 days of the essential Rx meds. Two reasons,
1.) If I couldn't go back to my room, I know I have 7 days worth.
2.) If there is a travel delay, that is my "a little extra just in case" stash.
Third reason, at home, if the pharmacy has a delay getting something, I have that extra week. But I try to re-order earlier than that.
I would hope in either travel scenario that the supplements my Docs want me to take would be available for purchase somewhere if there was an extended delay.
I don't worry about expired meds because that 7-day stash gets changed out whenever I refill Rxs.
In decades of travel I don’t give any thought to leaving meds in my suitcase in my room or out in the open. Does the OP place this level of worry traveling domestically? If not then don’t worry then going international.
I’ve always left my meds in the hotel room. I take all my meds at night, so that makes it easy. Unless there are meds you need to take during the day, just leave them. I put mine away either in a drawer or my suitcase.
Mine are all in small ziplocks, one AM and one PM. I always take a few extra in case travel is delayed. Same as I do here at home when traveling. I like the idea of a seven day pouch and rotation going as one never knows what might happen.
Never thought of it before and never been concerned.
Hmmm, I have never even thought of that. So I guess that says what I do….. My meds, while necessary, are fairly common, though.
If you're really worried, lock them in your suitcase. But I don't give it a second thought.
Thieves are more interested in cash, jewelry and electronics. Things they can easily sell.
Thanks for all the affirmations.
And yes, I worry when I travel domestic, but then I carry a purse, so have the rx's with me . In the US, the prescriptions could more easily be refilled, but my concern was replacement in Europe, especially the one from the specialty pharmacy.
But you all have reported no issues. Thanks so much.
Pat, I learned this while traveling for work: I place my suitcase/bag in a location farthest away from the room door. If someone is walking down the hall while the cleaning staff is in my bathroom with the room door open, they couldn’t grab my suitcase. Some of the closets, particularly in US hotels, are next to the room door.
I travel with a profusion of prescriptions. I always carry a few days worth in my day bag , but the bulk of them always stays in my hotel room. Never had a bad experience, never gave it a second thought
