Stop in Liechtenstein or skip it.

Planning a future trip......wondering if Liechtenstein is worth a slight detour?

I’m curious about places not a lot of people visit.

I just had to go to Luxembourg on a previous trip and it was so cool. A real gem..... wondering if Liechtenstein would be nice.

I actually visited Lichtenstein in 2010 with a small tour group that included a few stops in Switzerland. The main point of my joining the group's to attend the Passion Play in Oberamegau. We made a two hour stop in Lichtenstein and broke up as a group. Cannot remember the name of the town but it was primarily a bathroom/ coffee break but we were able to have our passports stamped - really a cool stamp. Now I can include it in my list of countries visited! If you are nearby, it may be worth a couple of hours' time! I remember the countryside was quite lovely.

Liechtenstien was our first overnight stay in Europe. Triesenberg to be exact. We liked it, but in retrospect, it is so similar to Switzerland and Austria it's not worth going out of your way for. If you're in the vicinity, why not.

I went to Liechtenstein last year as a quick detour on our way to Chur just to "check it off the list". It was not even worth a 30 minute detour. Nothing but traffic.

We stopped over on our honeymoon many years ago. It is worth it as another notch on the bedpost, though I admit I never gave it enough time.

I am tired of being criticized for trashing Liechtenstein, so I am turning over a new leaf and changing my views. Visit Liechtenstein by all means! It puts Mykonos and Ibiza to shame.

Party like it's 1899.

We stopped and had lunch in Vaduz, plus we had our passport stamped! The passport part was enough for me to justify the trip, but I can also say I ate there as well.

As someone who lives just over the border from Liechtenstein here's my take on it:

Meh. About as remarkable as the other side of the border. There are some nice spots but you're very likely to find far more interesting places to visit with the time it would take you to make that detour.

If you do decide to go. Avoid rush hour at ALL costs! Most of the towns still have pretty narrow streets and during morning commute, lunch break and evening commute they get absolutely swamped.
