Staying in Italy for 10 months

It seems impossible to be sure of the right documents to take to the Philadelphia consulate in order to make one trip to get our long stay visas. Is there a Pennsylvanian who has has successfully negotiated this process (we understand every consulate sets its own requirements). Our Italian family in our destination town has offered us the free use of a vacant small house during our stay; there should be a form somewhere for a letter to invite us, but we have been unable to find a current one. Do you think we should hire a Philadelphia attorney who speaks Italian to help us--we live 200 miles away, so we hope to make 1 trip to Philly and we hope to leave on September 5. HELP! Thanks

Have you called the consulate in Philly? I'm sure if you call, you can get someone to send you via email, fax or mail all the requirements b/f you come down here. I would call them, get someone helpful and write a letter and send it via email/fax and mail if you have to that particular person...I can't see someone not helping you after you go through all that. I work in a firm and I think it would be a waste of money to hire an Attorney right now...try the letter route now, but get right on it.
