St. Louis, MO Area Travel Group Sat. June 15

Hello Fellow St. Louis Travel Enthusiasts, Anyone who loves to travel (or talk about travel dreams) is invited to join our monthly group. Usually we gather at the Sunset Hills St. Louis Bread Co. but, at our May meeting, we decided to plan a local travel excursion instead of our regular June meeting. The St. Louis area has many interesting places to visit and sometimes we don't make time to enjoy the great things right in our own backyard. We thought having field trip meetings once in a while would be an ideal way to experience some of our local treasures. Since we can't make it to Rue Cler next weekend, the Soulard Market has been chosen for our first Travel Group Excursion! We will gather next Saturday, June 15, 9:30 a.m. at the corner of 7th Blvd. and Carroll St. across from the parking lots. Our idea is to explore the market, purchase picnic items, then go to the park at Lafayette Square, nearby, to enjoy our goodies. This is a very loosely scheduled outing and there appear to be many interesting temptations in the area, so plan to be flexible. Since we are uncertain about the availability of picnic tables, please bring chairs or a blanket. For more info: http://www.soulardmarket.com/ P.M. me if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!

What a great idea Lise! It's true that while people take great pains to do a lot of interesting things while traveling it is not done as much at home unless you take out of town guests around. My husband lived in Sacramento for 27 years before he went to the State Capitol building when we had a French exchange student 2 years ago. Crazy! Have fun!

Looking forward to it! Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I think the high is 84 with a chance of storms. @Andrea - as a St. Louis native I have to confess I've never been to the Soulard Farmers' Market. I think we all take for granted things that are relatively near to us, whether they be local farmers' markets or the country next door. I've been going to Europe regularly since 1999 but went to Canada for the first time only last year. And on the flipside, my German friend had never been to Amsterdam until 2007 when I suggested we meet there, even though it was only a few hours' train ride from where he lived.

I'm looking forward to our "trip!" Remember that Race for the Cure is also tomorrow. We should be south of all of the activity, but if you are driving through the downtown area to get there, you might need to plan around it.
