Spring Flowers

Last weekend the daffodils were coming up, and this week all the almonds, pears, apples and early stuff really started to pop. I just spent 3 hours driving the German and French Wine Road from Neustadt to Wissembourg and it was beautiful. Also very crowded, as just about anybody who could put the top down was out also. The next two weeks are going to be prime time for spring flowers in the Alsace-Lorraine and the Rheinpfalz.

Check the local calendars as there are a lot of small towns with spring flower / Easter fests.

In the North spring is a little later than in Southern parts of Germany. Nevertheless Husum has voted its annual crocus blossom queen (link with blossom impressions from 2025). Trees are still a little bit behind but tree pollen are strong impacting this year because after long time with low temperatures whole nature wakes up in parallel.

Running season in Schwerin will start today with lake trail distances of 33 and 61 km. Kids can start on a short trail with 3.5 km and some games.

I hope that the spring flowers will survive the small winter weather revival from mid of next week on.

Our Frühblüher (early blooming flowers) are starting to or are in bloom--Schneeglocken (snowbells), Krokus, Osterglocke (Narzisse), Tulpe, Hyazithe, and even the Primel (primrose). The weather is absolutely fabulous--perfect for sitting on a bench along the Elbe or a beach with a book.

The magnolias in Frankfurt are ready to burst into bloom, while lots of other trees are in full bloom already. Lovely as always. Will go check the cherry trees at the Alte Oper tomorrow.
