Only a few weeks away from our trip to Germany! Is it too late to buy insurance? My MAIN thing we're concerned about covering is trip interruption (I think that's what we're looking for). It's really the ONLY thing I want, but I think the only way to get it is thru a package plan. Is there such a thing? My main fear is cancelled/missed flights and having to fly home on some sort of emergency. How can I best cover that? Thank you!
Angela
You'll find a lot of travel insurance options plus comparative prices at: http://www.insuremytrip.com/
No, it's not too late. I also use insuremytrip.com. There you can compare companies and plans. You can also isolate (to a point) what you want to cover. Is it trip interruption you want, or are you really thing about medical evacuation in case you become injured or ill?
Whatever would cover me to get back in case of any type of emergency basically. We barely just afforded getting over there, we'd have a hard time paying for getting back!

There is a variety of insurance available. You have to read the fine carefully to see if it covers what you want covered. Cover realistic risks and not what ifs. And you can only cover your damages - money lost. A canceled or missed flight is inconvenient but probably not a lost of money. An emergency medical evacuation is very different and generally is cover under medical insurance. Having to return home for a death of a family member may or may not be cover depending on the fine print. You need to carefully define what you want cover. Premium will be in the range of 5 to 10% of money at risk.
Ok, thank you everyone! I went ahead and got something from Travel Guard. A reasonable price for what we needed. We got chased out of one vacation by a hurricane and lost a LOT of money because we hadn't insured it. But that dang fine print gets you anyway. It only covered the days under the evacuation, the rest they expected we could still use, but we wouldn't have been willing to travel the 7 hours again to get back. Sometimes you wonder if it's even really worth it!
I agree about using www.insuremytrip.com. We used them for travel insurance back in 2005 for our first trip to Europe. I got sick a month before we were to leave and we had to postpone our trip for one month (on doctor's orders) and we were reimbursed for the entire trip and made the trip one month later. It was not a hard thing to do with them and we were so glad we didn't lose out on anything and were able to make the trip later on. It is not too late to insure yourself and I would highly recommend it. I think we only paid about $79 and were covered for a lot of stuff with that policy. Hope you have a great trip! Wish I were going, too!
I agree with the two recommened insurance companies which were recommended. We have also used American Express Travel Insurance. When we went to Australia five years ago, both my husband and I had to see a doctor. All we did was submit our receipts to American Express and received a refund quickly. Their phones number is (800) 437-9209. You can call them and start the insurance about two weeks before you go. Then you receive your paperwork before you leave on your trip. When you get back, you just cancel the insurance. It only costs like $35 per month.
