The "Safe" thread brought to mind polyester covers on beds. Ick!
Aw jeez Bruce, you didn't have to go there..but as long as you did, about the first thing I do in a new hotel room is fold up the bedspread and stick it in a corner. Ick is right.
You mean those bedspreads where one side or the other, sometimes both sides, sort of hold everything they come in contact with: lint, fingernail clippings, hair, etc??
Oh, gag me with a spoon ...
oh dear ....I'm never going to be able to look at another bedspread the same again.
Peter Greenberg, the travel author on the Today Show, revealed that major hotel chains wash their sheets every day. But they dry clean the bedspreads or duvet covers about every six months, or sometimes let it go longer. (Makes me want to gag, then faint.)
Makes me not want to walk into any hotel room. If those bedspreads could talk....ugh!
In a hotel room, in Europe and in the U.S.A., when you remove the bedspread, wear latex gloves on your hands.
And yet, we survive....
I too remove the bedspread immediately and as the housekeeper to please leave it in the closet.
So does anyone know about the ckeaning of duvet covers in Germany and Austria? Beds don't come with an upper sheet, just the wrapped comforter. Because of this I was assuming it was cleaned between occupants.
Never check in without one: http://www.testsymptomsathome.com/fot01.asp
Yes, duvet covers are changed between guests. This is why I like them better than the bedspreads used in American hotels.
Laura.. yes Duvet covers are washed .. not always daily ( what a waste of water) but always between guests.
I do not need my bed sheets washed daily at home,, so not sure why people feel they need them changed daily on holiday.. many hotels now have signs asking that if you can bear to sleep in your own filth for an extra day or two , to leave the sign on the bed and they will not change sheets daily. I bathe before I get in bed and I do not wet the bed ( anymore/yet) so I never have sheets changed daily if choice is presented.
I too always remove bedspreads and place in closet. They are gross. Hate old pilly blankets too but sometimes that's all you get. I think one can survive sleeping with them however.. but I make sure they don't touch me if possible .
Thanks, Pat, for confirmation of what I had thought (having spent quite a few nights under duvets in Austria and Germany)
I agree with Jo. I'd much rather have a duvet cover that's laundered between guest than the bedspreads that almost never get washed.
