Spain, West Catalan Pyrenees suggestions

We are in Barcelona, planning the next leg of our trip to the Spanish Pyrenees starting around Oct 13. We like renting gites or homestays/farmstays if possible and are outdoor types. Any suggestions for towns, websites for accommodations etc welcome. I am looking at the town of Sort right now but this is in mid process. I don't have the Rick Steves guide to Spain (gasp!) (yet -looking in bookstores here - if anyone knows where likely to find let me know).

Sage, we went to Vall de Nuria, there is lots of hiking and outdoor activities. But it is north of Barcelona, close to the french border.

We spent one night in Tremp in August, at Hotel Nerets. We were going from Barcelona to Abalos in La Rioja at a leisurely pace; it was centrally located for our purposes. We found no restaurants, only a bar that sold snacks (I don't know if there was a restaurant and it was closed because it was August, or if there really is no place to eat dinner there). Fortunately, we had picnic foods with us. Going back to our room to organize that, we ended up hauling the small table and chairs from our room out to the extremely roomy balcony and knoshed as we watched the sun set over the mountains, the moon appear on the horizon, and the most beautiful wash of stars materialize overhead. We stayed out there for hours - and would have missed the beauty if we'd had dinner in a restaurant and gone to bed.
