As anyone gone to Spain in the winter months and what is the weather like in Spain during Jan/Feb? I'm heading there on a quick 8 day run i.e., Barcleona to San Diego de Compastella to Madrid.
thanks!
While surely outside the norm, it was danged cold this year when we visited Barcelona in early 2012. Further, there was snow and ice at Montserrat.
This April in Spain was among the coldest weather we have experienced in Europe. Touring the Alhambra mid-April was in the 30's with a windchill down into the 20's (I wish that were centigrade). If you read some books on the Spanish Civil War, you will note that snow (especially in northern Spain and higher elevations, not so much on the Basque coast) isn't unusual - as is generally cold weather in the winter. I'd travel expecting cold and hopefully be pleasantly surprised by relatively mild temps.
In the north, where Santiago de Compostella is, they do get snow, particularly in the mountains. It can be quite cold (Santiago de Compostella is at about the same latitude as Madison, WI, if that gives you an idea - farther north than your home).
Even in Madrid there is a chance of light snow in those months. I lived in Madrid (many years ago) for a year; winter weather can be cloudy/rainy/snowy or clear and mild.
Thank you all. I had planned on brining some warmer-type clothes. Now I will defeinelty do so. I'm travelling towards San Diego de Comp, so I'll make sure to bring some extra clothing.
