Spain, Portugal and Morocco

I am planning a trip to Spain Portugal and Morocco in August of 2012. Has anyone been on a tour there. Is it better to just go to Spain and book tours to Portugal and Morocco? Would love some feedback. Thanks, Lisa

We are leaving for 10 days in Spain tomorrow. I used Rick's book to plan our trip and guides but I set up our itinerary and sent emails for guide services. We are going to Madrid, Toledo, Granada, and then basing ourselves in Marbella for trips to Cordoba, Sevilla and Ronda. We then ferry to Morocco for 10 days. We have a private guide and driver meeting us at the ferry in Tangier. We will visit Fes, Merzouga, And drive to Marrakech. I like researching services and planning so this process was fun for me and is an opportunity to learn more about where you are visiting. Chose to use a local guide and driver in Morocco for ease and comfort in this exotic country. Traveling independent or on a tour is personal preference. I feel we save some money by traveling independent even though we do engage local guide services.

It's really a personal choice about what kind of trip you want....Two years ago, I went to Portugal solo, and spent 2 weeks with a rental car, including a week spent in a cottage I rented in the north of the country, and a few days in Lisbon. I did a lot of planning on my own on the Internet, and made some plans when I was there based on what I saw and what I felt like doing. Right now I'm just finishing a 2 week (solo) trip in Spain, where I spent most of a week in each of Barcelona and Madrid, and took some side trips by train from each city....again, no organized tours, I just studied on the Internet and books about what I might like, and booked it myself (ultimately, I was in Barcelona, Bilbao, Figueres, Madrid, Cuenca, and Cordoba). That's the way I like to travel.......there's a lot of information on the internet if you want to plan a trip yourself, but if you want to have the details are worked out for you, there are lots of travel companies that will help you too.
