Southern Edge--Egypt

I know that Egypt is not within Europe, but it is area that many of those traveling to Europe are interested in and the events in Cairo and other Egyptian cities and areas are amazing and of course affecting travelers. There is an excellent post on TripAdvisor that anyone who has plans to travel to Egypt in the near future should read. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g294201-i9404-k4197246-The_siruation_in_Cairo_until_next_Saturday-Cairo.html Tripadvisor has other posts that will help as well. Can any suggest other sites for our friends who are venturing outside Europe this winter? Pam

Pamela,
I don't have any other site to suggest but a thank you for suggesting Trip Advisor. (I check TA daily but never thought to look for comments re: Cairo!) We have a friend in Cairo right now who is supposed to be returning to the US this week so have been anxiously watching the developments. Thanks for the suggestion.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in respect to European travel longterm. A destabilized Egypt is not good for the middle east and could produce ripples in Europe especially in countries with large populations from North Africa and the middle east (i.e. France, UK, etc..). Best case scenario is popular reform results in a more democratic secular state ala Turkey. Worst case scenario involves religious fundamentalists taking control, threatening Israel and dragging the West into a war that makes Iraq look like a scrimmage. I'm not really optimistic about the former scenario.
