We are 3 adult friends traveling for the first time in Italy. Can you tell me another town to stay in other than Sorrento, first week in October.? Looking to have less traffic. on our final days in Italy. boat loads from cruise ships seems to be the order there. My friends that have stayed there loved it but that was 6yrs ago.
We want to take a day trip on the ferry or small boat along the coast. Our dream is sea view rooms and small town with great little restaurants. I think I have now read too many guide books. If you have been to the area in the last year or two, would love to hear opinions. I dont mind spending a bit more for rooms with views but not the break the bank George Clooney type. thanks
The reason Sorrento is busy most of the time is because it is popular and fun. The day trippers go back to the cruise ships in the evening, so it is quieter in the evenings. The sea view rooms and great little restaurants are in Sorrento because, well, it's Sorrento. Anzio, Livorno, and La Spezia are less crowded, and much less picturesque.
A point to consider is that you are visiting at the end of the Summer tourist season, so there are fewer visitors than might be the case several weeks earlier. Sorrento is magical, even when it is crowded.
Years ago we were on a tour with either Globus or Cosmo (can't remember which) and our hotel was in Sant'Agnello, close to Sorrento. It was close enough that we walked from our hotel to Sorrento.
