Some Airlines ceasing operations due to the virus

SAS, Air Baltic and Lot Polish Airlines have virtually ceased operating for the next month or so.

American Airlines will only have three long haul international flights.

La Compagnie and Royal Jordanian are also shutting down.

Norwegian claims it is days away from running out of cash.

Since international borders in Poland are closed to both rail and air travel, it makes sense that LOT has suspended operations until at least March 28th (it's the national carrier). That doesn't mean it's going under like Norwegian probably will (just based on its existing precarious position).

LOT was supposed to start non-stop service from one of my regional airports (IAD) to Warsaw (WAW) in the summer, and I'm afraid this will be a casualty of COVID. I don't see any short-term system expansions from any airline materializing as planned right now.

Nitpicking comment: They are suspending, not ceasing operations. And most European airlines will in a week probably run only a very limited amount of flights.

Ceasing operations is usually a euphemism for bankrupcy.

This is from Delta's website
Reduced Schedule to Europe and the U.K.

Starting Monday, Delta will continue to operate one daily flight between the following cities:

•Atlanta to Amsterdam
•Atlanta to London-Heathrow
•Atlanta to Paris-Charles De Gaulle
•Detroit to Amsterdam
•New York-JFK to London-Heathrow

This schedule will continue to provide customers access to multiple destinations throughout Europe through Delta’s expanded joint venture partnership with Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic. Air France and KLM plan to continue their own operations to CDC-designated U.S. airports and are closely coordinating with Delta and Virgin Atlantic as adjustments are made.
