SOM tour and rick steves' discount

I am looking to book online for the Bob's Sound of Music tours for my wife and I. Online there is no way to get the rick steves' discount (5 Euros/person off). Anyone had success in doing this online or another way? please let me know (p.s. i don't speak german, so calling them is a little intimidating :?) also, my wife is a student, will she get the rick steves' discount off the student fare also? thanks for answering the 2 questions....

I dont believe there is any reason to book ahead. There is more then one SOM tour and you can go to the window and buy a ticket or if in town the day before buy your ticket for the next morning. This is what we did.

Hello Brian. I put a very low priority on going on a Sound of Music tour from Salzburg. I think a five hour bus tour (in a mini bus) to the Salzkamergut (Wolfgang See) is better.

I did the SOM tour this summer that Rick recommends. It was great fun. We were seven of us in a small van with a tour guide who spoke English. The van got us in and out of small places and we saw some the countryside around Salzburg. It was a wonder 5 hours. Don't knock it if you haven't tried. it. BTW I called and they spoke English. So, go ahead and make a phone call. ; ) BTW I would avoid the big bus tour--the one with Maria painted on the sides and back. Also, do take a ride on the luge run. It's terrific fun and no one is too old to do it!

My son and I took the SOM tour in the big bus and had a marvelous time. We had a great tour guide, sang the entire score, and drank a beer on the ride back to Salzburg. I am a BIG Sound of Music fan and I enjoyed this tour very much. We just made arrangements at our hotel and they took care of everything. The bus picked us up at our hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Bergland which is recommended by Rick and was great!
