Solo Multi-Destination European Trip/Interailing

Looking at your possible trip, I see they add up to a minimum of 7 nights to 9 nights. You state you have 6-7 days. Can you tell us how you have figured out your itinerary? And have you calculated the time involved in your train or bus transfers between locations? I can't quite figure out how a 6-7 day trip works with the three cities, especially using up a good part of the day on a Flix bus. I see the bus from Bologna to Llubljana takes just over 6 hours, and Ljubljana to Budapest takes over 7 hours. That is pretty much two whole days out of your 6-7 days. Any thoughts on this?

I’ve calculated it for 9 nights. 3 nights in each city.

Across a weekend (2 days), I therefore only need to use 7 days of annual leave.

I’d land in Bologna late afternoon, so would have that evening, plus 2 full days and nights.

The FlixBus from Bologna to Ljubljana would get me in Ljubljana for 3:30pm, I’d then have that afternoon and evening, plus 2 more days and nights in Ljubljana (one of which would be the day trip to bled).

On the day I’d travel from Ljubljana to Budapest (again using FlixBus), I’d actually have the morning in Ljubljana before travelling. I’d get to Budapest at 7:30pm, I’d have this evening, plus 2 full days and nights, then fly home. Probably don’t need 2 full days here as I’ve been before, however would like to maximise nightlife here.

In terms of time in each city, I’d probably have enough to “see the sights” however wouldn’t feel like I am “living” in any of them.

And yes, both FlixBus transfers would be around 6 hours each, so a lot of wasted time/days really however I cannot think of another combination of places that would give me this, that are closer together (I’m of course open to suggestions!!)

I just came back from the Baltic States and they would be ideal for that type and length of trip. Fly to Vilnius, bus to Riga (4 hours), bus to Tallinn (4 hours) and fly home from there (or vice versa), spend a couple of nights in each city. These three cities have some similarities, but enough differences to make them all worthwhile, and they’re lively and budget friendly, with lots to see and do. However, October through December is not the best time for this region; May through September is preferable.

It sounds like you are on top of things and aware of your travel times and times in each city. They are a bit far apart, in the time you have, but you know what you want to do in each place, and youi know yourself best. Have fun!

After Ljubljana go to Split instead of Budapest, or if you are really adventerous Ulcinj where the beach front parties all night long. My room was half way across the bay and I could still hear it.
