Looking for moderate hotel lodging in central Sofia for Sept.
Thx in advance.
Not sure if it meets the "moderate" criterion, but the Bulgaria tour uses the Hotel Crystal Palace. Nice hotel, chain-like, pleasant people at the desk. Walking distance to most things, with a subway station nearby.
I spent 19 days in Bulgaria and was in Sofia twice just last month.
It would help if you gave us an idea of what you think moderate is.
But here is a suggestion: The BUDAPEST HOTEL in Sofia. It is walking distance to the train station (5 mins) and is clean and comfortable and modern. They have a big breakfast where you can get an American style breakfast if you want. (Some Rates include breakfast) Its walking distance to the Metro and on a tram line.
Keep in mind that Taxis are VERY cheap in Sofia and Bulgaria generally so taking a cab anywhere is an option and all of our taxi drivers were great no problems.
I actually loved the Crystal Palace in Sofia. Very roomy and comfortable rooms, wonderful and varied buffet breakfast, nice people on staff, and a terrific location, very near Aleksander Nevski Cathedral, metro stop very nearby, and a nice park right across the street. Check the rates for the time of your visit, and you can decide if it fits your definition of moderate.
You might look and see if you can find something you like a little closer to Vitosha Boulevard which is where there are a lot of shops, restaurants, etc. Its the part of town i like at least. Oh, and i did once stay at the Budapest Hotel. It was very, very okay.
Looks like Sept is a busy time in Sofia. Thx so much for all your suggestions.
I am booked and ready to go soon.
