Soap for Laundry

Has anyone found a laundry soap that is not liquid, that is travel friendly and will easily wash out of clothing?

I found a website for Forever New and it seems they sell at Dillards or you can shop on line but then you pay shipping of $10 if the order is under $50.

I used to get a type of laundry soap in Portugal (LIS-Lisbon) at Contenete (Sp?) that came in tablet form. I think it was their own Dia Brand but I can't remember. I haven't seen it there for awhile. It was really handy.

I think it was marketed similar to the tablets you can get here now for dishwashers but this was for laundry. Maybe if you look you could find something similar? I'm always on the hunt for it since the one year supply I bought is running low! It's a great product, if you can find it!

Last summer we used a bar of Fels Naptha, and plan to use it again this summer. It has a very nice scent.

" Forever New"
It comes in a small container similar to a baby powder container, it is only about 4inches by 2 sq'd, and it washes 25 loads in a sink. It is meant for underwear, I found it in the lingerie department of our big department store. It is meant to rince out easily and low sudsing( so it doens't make a huge mess) . Since it is a powder it is easy to pack, and it is so concentrated that one could do sink loads for a month and not run out.

Travelon makes a line of soap sheets. One is particularly for laundry. You can find it online or at Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I tried it. I'm not thrilled with it but it is travel friendly and will not be questioned by security.

We also use Fels Naptha, which is readily available in most grocery stores. It's great for getting stains out, especially when you bring along a little fingernail brush to scrub the grain of the fabric. Since a bar of it lasts forever, I took a big kitchen knife and chopped off about a fourth of the bar, which was still way too much for a family of four washing laundry almost every night for 3 weeks. (I learned about using Fels Naptha and the nail brush many years ago on the Graffiti Wall!)

I found "soap leaves" at the AAA store. They are small, very thin "leaves" of soap. I've used a similar product for washing my hands at restrooms that have no soap available. I'm really excited to take these soap leaves on my next trip as they are NOT gel nor are they liquid, so I don't need to pack them in my quart baggie! They come in a little plastic pack and weigh very little.

Christina , I realize you may not have the Bay ( as in orginally the Hudson Bay) Department stores in US, but it will be helpful for other Canadians to note thats where I got the stuff. It wasnt' much, less then 5 dollars. I sure wouldn't pay ten dollars to have it shipped either.

I only mentioned Dillards for the US. I think it is cool that we have people from all over on here so we can share info.

Sunlight brand laundry soap comes in a bar (at least in Canada). It's cheap, efficient, lemon-scented, and easy to find in the laundry aisle.

I second Pat's recommendation of Forever New. It works great, rinses well. Look in dept stores or lingerie stores. Smells kind of like Ivory bar soap.

Many lingerie departments sell crystal/powdered soap that is gentle and washes out easily. I like the Nordstroms brand.

Buy soap when you get to your destination. Save the important packing space.
