Heading from Milan to Zurich on the train on Sept 21. Does anyone know if there is likely to be any snow on the peaks? We would love to see some out of the train window.
Go to this website and see for yourself: http://www.feratel.com/en/home.html It's too early to predict right now. The current weather is unseasonably cool, but what if August is unseasonably hot?
Is this the direct train on the Gotthard Pass route? You will have a few tunnels on the way, but when we took that train last July we had a few glimpses of snowy peaks and hanging glaciers in the distance. Even if the peaks lost all their snow by September (which is unlikely), the hanging glaciers would still be there.
Yes, it is the Gotthard Pass. thank you for the info.
That is a nice route. We did not see a thing on the outbound leg, Zürich to Milan, as it was raining. But on the return we had clear weather and it was lovely. There are quite a few tunnels, but most are short and some are quite interesting, as they do a spiral turn to gain or lose elevation. You are not aware of the turning loop as they go rather slowly, but you can see them on the train system map.
