I use the Classic view and have noticed in the last few days much slower loading of the pages, especially when I back up to the main file when backing out of individual threads. I use Google, and have noticed it often says it is waiting for facebook. I don't see the relationship. I see that RS has a Facebook slot on the right side now of the main sections but nothing on the Classic view. Has anybody else seen this? Any ideas (yes I know - I will ask the Webbie after I work a bit of it out) why it would need to feed or ask Facebook every time the main thread list is loaded? Does anybody else care?
Maybe it's a Google thing. I notice no difference on my iPad using Safari.
I always use classic view, but have not experienced any slowdown. I use the Firefox browser.
Nigel, I use the "other view" (whatever it's called), usually with FireFox and haven't noticed that it's been slower than usual. It was acting a bit abnormal though the day before yesterday. After signing on and composing a reply, the site would ask me to sign in again before posting each reply. It was darn annoying so I shut it down and tried again later in the day.
Bets, I had the same problem, sure that a lot of people did, if not everyone. Sure is frustrating though when it happens.
I'm very happy to know it wasn't just me. I was concerned it may have been an issue with my computer or network connection. I had the same issues as Bets and Nancy.
On the Helpline homepage there's a box that says "Find us on Facebook" with a continuous update of information. I wonder if that's the Facebook connection.
I found the website unavailable---the whole Ricksteves.com, not just the Helpline---intermittently starting yesterday afternoon and through most of the evening. It was like it did not exist. It was briefly available this morning, and then gone again. Tried multiple computers, so I know it wasn't that.
Nigel, Here also in Florida. First I got the html list, then a sign in query stating that my post was too lengthy, try again. Nothing at all this morning, then Globus Tours links. It's working now. They must be upgrading with all these rolling blackouts. (Power cuts.) Hostile takeover or coup d'etat by Globus Tours maybe, haha.
I care a lot, it's how I kill time at work.
The entire RS website was "out of commission" from some time yesterday evening until this morning at about 10:00. Trying to access the website just brought up an odd "Search" page. I called ETBD this morning and they confirmed there were some computer problems, and they were working on them. The website started functioning shortly after that. Thanks Webmaster! Good to have the site back!
Thank you Ken and Webmaster! This morning from 4:30-7:00 I couldn't get on so I couldn't even enjoy my morning coffee....Terrible, absolutely terrible way to start my day!
