Sleeping on Ferry Tallin to Helsinki

Hi
Looking at options for my trip from Tallin to Helsinki. I see an option to board the Ferry at 10 pm and it arrives in Helsinki at 10:15 the next morning. It looks to be the same ferry that leaves Helsinki at 8 am. Has anyone does this. It would save a night in a hotel/hostel. It is with Viking. It’s 76 Euros. My hostel is 60 a night. I’m trying to decided as it means arrived Monday at 10:30 rather than Sunday at 6 pm. I am
Flying back to Canada Friday morning. Will three fills days be good to get an overview of Helsinki

If it makes a difference I would be arriving in Helsinki on Monday morning
Thanks
Wendy

What ferry operator are you looking at?
Just a quick scan, it looks like Silja Line allows an option of night on the boat, but it appears that the boat leaves at 10:30 pm and docks at Helsinki at 30 past midnight, but you remain in your cabin until 6 am.

When I took the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki it was about a 2 hour trip--are you purposefully choosing overnight? I used Tallink Silja line, excellent service. I saw quite a lot of Helsinki in 8 hours, so 3 days will give you plenty of time to explore, allow a 1/2 day for Suomenlinna.

Three days would have been more than I'd want in Helsinki, personally. I much preferred Tallinn, which is touristy but has a charming old town. Helsinki isn't that old - is very pleasant but not especially charming. There is more in Estonia I would have wanted to see with more time than spending more time in Helsinki. Or, I might try to sneak in a quick "visa free" trip to St. Petersburg (which would mean two nights on that ferry, one each way). I'd say doing that after Tallinn was the highlight of that trip.

But are you staying that sleeping on the ferry to Helsinki saves you money, time, or both? I found sleeping on the ferry to St. Petersburg easier than expected, but I'd still prefer a land-based lodging.

On the track of Finnish architects such as Alvar Aalto and Eero Saarinen I found plenty to do in Helsinki for a few days after a long trip through Scandinavia. The art museum was unforgettable as it displayed many works of native Finnish artists that illustrated fully the effect of the unique far northern sunlight in Finnish art. I also enjoyed the harbor area and of great interest was also the museum linked below.

Tallinn as a former Hanseatic League city has a much richer history with architecture reflecting its Baltic German background.

Thank you. I was looking to maybe save some money by skipping a hotel night. It looks like you stay in port in Tallinn for the night.

Thanks for the advice about the time in Helsink. I find that 3 days is the minimum I like to spend in most cities. Russia will have to wait for another trip
