Sleeping in Train Stations.

Hi,

I am going to Italy next month and I've opted for overnight train ( Rome - Florence, Florence - Venice, Venice - Rome ). I am not really sure if there is any hostel that will accept me if I arrive as early as 3 a.m. So, is it a safe thing to sleep in train stations?

Hi Jesse,

You will be kicked out of most train stations if you attempt to sleep there.

And is the midnight departure a true necessity from most places?

Depending on where you are going, many hostels are open 24/7 for check in/out. Just research carefully at a good website like hostels.com.

you're seriously going to ride a nite train from Rome to Florence? There is no "overnite" in this; its about a 2-3 hour ride depending on what speed train you choose. Why not just leave early the next morning?

I really hope that you are not doing this to save hotel money or daylight. I don't think that you will like the results. Yes, you can get on the Rome to Zurich night train on the 234 Allegro Tosca departing at 19:10 or the 774 Marco Polo departing at 22.36 but 2.5hrs later, it looks like you are getting off at Florence. Not good in the middle of the night. I hope that you re-think this strategy if you don't have a hotel or hostel to go to.
