I am backpacking Europe for two months this summer. Do I need a sleep sheet ? I have heard and read that most hostels give you bed sheets upon checking in. Do I still need a sleep sheet?
Most won't let you use anything of your own since they might have cooties. A few will let you if they don't provide freebies. Otherwise they rent you a set for a buck or two. I haven't carried one in years Towels are a different story. I take an artificial chamois cloth type deal and keep it in a small zip lock.
The last time I carried a sleep sheet was in 2005. I used it once - just because I had packed it - but chose not to even carry it home. It may be that I try to go to the nicer (rather than party central) hostels, but I really never needed it.
Yes. You could/should check with the hostel associations of the counties you are visiting. Most if not all of the mountain hytte expect you to bring sheet bags because of the difficult of doing laundry. I like the silk sleep sacks because the are both light and fold compact. They also air fry faster than cotton.
